Military Family Employment Advocate

Overview:

The Military Family Employment Advocate, provides career counseling to customers to improve their education and professional skillset and helps them to obtain employment along their chosen career pathway by providing intensive career advising and case management services. Serves as the designated advocate for the employment of military spouses and families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Provide and facilitate career and employment services to active-duty military spouses and families.
  • Connect with military spouses and families by attending military family functions, through social media platforms designed for military families, and other base/military connections and events.
  • Contact employers and outside agencies to promote the Military Family Employment Advocacy and promote the entry of military spouses into education, training, and certifications/licensure programs.
  • Build military community program connections for programs and resources for military and Veteran family members.
  • Coordinate with the Department of Defense (DOD) Family Support/Service Centers and Transition Assistance Programs (TAP) to identify military spouses and families for services.
  • Serve as contact with the local military base, National Guard/Reserve units on behalf of military spouses and family employment issues.
  • Interviews and engages customers in a comprehensive assessment that includes career aptitude assessments to help evaluate the customers’ interests, skills, education levels and abilities.
  • Initiate discussions with active duty military family members to provide interview and resume assistance, soft skill development, and training opportunities. Facilitate workshops, plan and implement in-person and virtual presentations and events designed specifically to meet the needs of military spouses.
  • Interview military spouses, identify barriers to employment, and develop plans of action.
  • Determines eligibility for local, state, and federal workforce development programs and activities.
  • Provides active duty military family members with information on the local job market, employment services and resources, educational opportunities, and other available services.
  • Identifies support service needs and provides assistance in a timely manner.
  • Consistently be aware of ongoing military spouse employment initiatives and legislation.
  • Enters data for all services according to policies and procedures accurately into multiple information systems.
  • Maintains quality case files with all required documents and with all filing up to date.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in a relevant field of study.
  • One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of word processing and spreadsheet software programs.
